The Nigeria Football Federation has approved the appointment of Akeem Ishola Busari as the new Head Coach of the U17 Girls National Team, the Flamingos.
The decision followed a recommendation by the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee, which was subsequently endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee.
Busari takes over from Bankole Olowookere, who enjoyed a successful tenure with the team, including guiding the Flamingos to a historic bronze medal finish at the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India.
The new coach brings considerable experience and a strong background in women’s football, having developed a reputation within the domestic league.
His immediate assignment will be to lead Nigeria’s U17 girls in the qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by Morocco. The Flamingos are set to face the winner of the preliminary fixture between Niger Republic and Guinea, with the first leg expected to be played away from home in the third week of next month.
Busari currently serves as Head Coach of Pacesetter Queens FC of Ibadan and is expected to bring his expertise to bear as the Flamingos aim to secure another appearance on the global stage.
