The Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, on Saturday, 18 October 2025, held its Inter-Company 20 Kilometres Endurance Race Competition for members of the 89 Regular Recruit Intake, as part of their ongoing physical and regimentation training programme.
In a statement by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army Depot Osogbo, Major Yahaya Ibrahim, the event was flagged off by the Deputy Commandant, Colonel Mathias Obi and featured all training companies of the intake.

The Special Guest of Honour, Air Vice Marshal Samuel Abosede (Rtd), Vice President of the Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers Association (RANAO), commended the Commandant and instructors for their dedication to the professional development of the recruits.
He lauded the resilience displayed during the race and encouraged the recruits to sustain the spirit of excellence and hard work, describing endurance training as a critical part of building disciplined and mission-ready soldiers.
At the end of the keenly contested race, Juliet Training Company emerged overall champion, while Delta and Charlie Companies came in as first and second runners-up respectively. Hotel Company finished tenth and received the wooden spoon.

Medals and cash prizes were presented to the top three male and female recruits with the fastest finishing times.

According to the organisers, the 20km endurance race is a vital component of the Nigerian Army’s training curriculum, designed to build stamina, resilience, and teamwork among recruits. It also fosters comradeship and a competitive spirit essential in molding disciplined, physically fit, and combat-ready soldiers.
The event was graced by notable dignitaries including the former Director of Army Sports Physical Training (ASPT) and Chairman of RANAO Osun State Chapter, Brigadier General Ademola Aderigbibe (Rtd), the Vice Chairman, Deputy Commandant, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Osun State Command, as well as officers and soldiers of the Depot Nigerian Army.
