Viktor Gyökeres arrived at Arsenal with sky-high expectations after a prolific spell at Sporting, where he netted 97 goals in 102 games. But after six goalless appearances, some are starting to wonder: is he really the final piece in Arteta’s puzzle?
Despite only scoring 3 times in 10 games, Gyökeres remains a key figure in Arsenal’s attacking setup. His off-the-ball movement, relentless pressing, and ability to stretch defenses have drawn praise from teammates and coaches alike.
“He’s a big part of why we’re winning,” says Bukayo Saka. Arteta adds that his runs “open spaces” that boost the team’s creativity — something stats support, with Gyökeres among the league’s top forwards in off-ball runs behind the backline.
Though tightly marked in every match, Gyökeres often pulls multiple defenders, creating chances for others — as seen in Arsenal’s recent wins over Newcastle and West Ham. The Gunners believe the goals will come.
Like Havertz before him, Gyökeres may just need time to adapt to the Premier League. With easier fixtures ahead, the expectation is that the Swedish striker will soon rediscover his scoring touch.
